Might or Might Not Be

I will just keep this simple. For those that are still reading or happens to stumble upon this blog, thanks for visiting. But if you notice the date that I update this blog is not so frequent anymore. I took a look at my posts and realized that I only updated a total of 6 post from the month of April until July. When I look at fashion blogs, I do not have that kind of enthusiasm that I had last year anymore. Simply said, I might be leaving this blog, left it unattended until the day comes that will lift me up with the same kind of excitement as the day I started this blog. Who knows, it might be happening in a week, or when fashion week starts in September, next year or sadly, never. I can't guarantee when I will write again, or post a new post. What I can guarantee is that I will leave this blog as it is. I really hope that I won't be leaving too but my time are preoccupied with so many other things and my lack of inspiration is making me decide otherwise.

Coolest Cover Girl, Indeed

It's been a long long time since Freja appears on the cover of Vogue. This is a pleasant surprise and seeing her looking so lovely with all the orange outfit and pink pastel colors on the cover is surely makes up for the long absence of covers that Freja had. Famously known for her androgyny style, this is something unexpected of Freja yet she manages to pull it off just amazingly. For a beauty like Freja, a simplistic pose like this is just more than enough.

Sorry, I've been lacking in updating lately. I've been focusing on another unrelated blog recently thus making this blog dull, unattended and empty. Lately, I have not been giving much attention to the fashion world- what's going on, the cover girls etc. I will try to update as much as I can, I promise. Another high point is that this blog has hit more than 22,ooo visitors- though that may not be much- but, that's A LOT to me. I started this blog because I'm just a little fan of Coco Rocha and her G2000 ad attracted me. Little did I know that I will be following fashion later on. Deep down, I'm still a normal shirt and jeans kinda person but now, I know a lot more about fashion, models and designers than my peers although I'm still a rookie in the fashion world.

Cover Girl

It's very rare to see a model on the cover of Teen Vogue. They usually favor teen celebrities over models. So, to see Karlie on the cover is quite surprising but it is no surprise that Karlie is on top of her game. She is of top model status now- going strong on editorials, runways, covers and of course, nabbing a few campaigns along the way. And, yes, Karlie is still a teenager. The cover itself is fun and young. And, for once, I don't mind the font overload- it goes pretty well with the outfit, Karlie and Teen Vogue.

There are quite a number of model siblings in the fashion business. There are Missy and Frankie Rayder, Gemma Ward and her sister Sophie Ward, and the lesser known Aida and Ieva Aniulyte.

This season is all about Ann Kenny and her twin sister Kirby. Though both of them are twins, they stand out separately. Ann is by far the more successful twin with her brunette long hair and fierce stare. Kirby is the more sweet girl next door twin with her blonde hair and her big doe eyes seeking for your attention. Together, this pair of twins have walked Celine, Marc Jacobs and Burberry. Apart, Kirby walked for Miu Miu while Ann did Prada.

Kim Noorda's Battle with Her Weight

No one ever knows. No one ever thought the beautiful Kim Noorda, with sparkling blue eyes and milky skin has been battling with her weight gain.

This is Kim Noorda's story. A story that we had became familiar with, of almost all models experienced, their fear of gaining weight and maintaining their "perfect ideal weight" and being pressured by the fashion world. What they don't understand it that the fashion world is asking these girls to put their health at risks and making them feeling so insecure about themselves. Models like Kim started out when they are still teenagers and when they grow up to be adults, the fashion world just won't let them grow.

It's a pity, really, doing these to our beloved models. They are human too. I wish Kim Noorda all the best in finding her true self. She is so courageous to share this with all of us, telling us that models are human too after all.

Elegant and Chic

These two might be a very different covers but somehow both manages to catch my attention. The first Vogue Turkey cover is oh-so elegant. Cover girl Jessica Stam looks so gorgeous on it- the pose, the gaze especially with those eyes of hers- everything is so perfect; and that's what you need for the premiere issue- Vogue Turkey cleverly enough manages to do that-to get the attention of not only the Turkish readers but all over the world. Abbey Lee's Vogue Australia cover is the exact opposite version. But the summery feel that the cover `gave really interests me. The seductive, teasing stare that Abbey gave is fresh for a Vogue cover.You usually gets a model posing for a cover and although most argued that the Australian version is merely Vogue quality, I think a little twist to the traditional cover is more than welcomed. I, for one, love the cover, Abbey is definitely the go-to model for this cover and even the orange font did it for me. Two of my favorite cover for the month of March (and this too, of course!).

Asian Supers at Givenchy; Lily & Raquel walked exclusively

The casting of the models at this season's runway is just so surprising. The VS angels are appearing at big shows, shows that you don't expect to see them. Think Prada, Giles, Louis Vuitton etc. All this might be influenced by the brand that started this trend : Givenchy (for casting Adriana Lima for Fall 2009). Again, Givenchy surprises us this season with the model casting - the variety of the models are amazing-equally enough black models and Asians- more surprisingly- two Asian supermodels walked for the show- Ling Tan and Ai Tominaga.

After all the surprises, I wonder how next season will be. Will we be seeing the likes of Daria, Hana, Gemma, Isabeli and Liya returnig to the runway or perhaps more Caroline, Sasha, Coco, Hilary and Raquel. Speaking of which, Lily Donaldson finally appeared at Louis Vuitton and Raquel did only Chloé this entire season.

They're Back!

It's near the end of fashion month and at the final stop at Paris, these top models are making a return back at the runway for top designers and big fashion houses like Givenchy, Karl Lagerfeld, Jean Paul Gaultier, Dior, Loewe and John Galliano. Apart from Anna J who walks for Givenchy, Jessica Stam, Coco and Caroline Trentini starts off the Paris week walking for Giles who have a standout casting almost all the top models with a few surprises like Karoline Kurkova (who opened and closed) among many others. So glad to see these girls back on the runway. Hoping that all of them will show up at Chanel.

Models on break

Last season, Sigrid, Raquel and Anna Jagodzinka did not walk. Although both Raquel and Anna J also seems to skip this season, Sigrid has by far dominate the runway since her comeback. To add to this season's missing models are top models Lily Donaldson, Jessica Stam and Caroline Trentini. All three are nowhere to be seen since fashion week started.

Two other fashion darlings are skipping this season too- Toni Garrn skipped the entire fashion week because she is concentrating on her exams and studies and Imogen also did the same thing after the London fashion week ended- she twitted that her finals are near- this mean that we won't be seeing her at Milan and Paris. However, Imogen's model friend, Nimue Smit is just getting started- she skipped NY to focus on her exams and now it's over, we'll be seeing her everywhere.

However, there's still some hopes. Catherine McNeil returns to the runway at Prada yesterday and Jessica Stam twitted that she'll be at Paris.

Surprises at Prada

Prada is always full of surprises with all the exclusive models that they nabbed every season.

But this season is more than that; they surprisingly cast not one, not two but 3 Victoria's Secret models (Alessandra Ambrosio, Doutzen Kroes and Miranda Kerr).

Aussies Catherine McNeil walked for the first time after a year long break from the runway and Abbey Lee Kershaw walked for Prada after debuting 2 years ago.

There's no Sasha, Freja and Ymre and regulars like Anabela Belikova, Irina Kulikova, Hanne and Nimue were not cast.

Yes, I know this might be late but I can't stop wondering how Elie Saab managed to keep up to his wonderful works after so many years, seasons after seasons. He is one of the few designers that doesn't disappoint. I mean, look at his SS Couture 2010 collection.

Sigrid Argen joins Charlotte di Calypso and Anne Vyalitsyna as the campaign girl for Chance by Chanel fragrance. Which is the better ad that you'd prefer? I think all three versions exudes youth and sensuality but these three models portray a different versions each. Anne V's sensual and feminine, Charlotte's youthful and sporty while Sigrid's is dreamy and sweet . Love all the three versions!

Your opinion. A straight-off copy? Which is the better version? I have to say though, even if US Vogue is the original cover, I like the Vogue China cast better- Du Juan and Liu Wen (dream come true- I really hope Liu Wen got the front cover instead of Du Juan but Du Juan is a powerhouse in China- well, at least Liu Wen's in the cover) and Karlie, Constance, Anna J and Lily Donaldson. I think the Vogue China cover serves the purpose of top models- established top models on front cover and rising stars on the back. Agree?

So far, images of Liu Wen and Constance have appeared and I should applaud the team for doing a job well done. This is so much better than last season- the casting of the models compliments each other too. Liu Wen and Constance are strikingly beautiful. I love how they blend the reds, whites and blues. Seems like a masterpiece to me.

Gosh, I lurrrve black and white.
Especially with special effects like this Jill Stuart ad.
And I love how the brand's name in pastel pink. It totally stands out.

Notice the focus on the models' expression as extension to their hair? It's actually the same as their head shots but the geniuses at Jill Stuart just make it much striking by adding some special effects.
Loving the killer pose, the killer expression and the most outstanding newcomers- Hannah Holman and Frida (they're my top ten, remember?). I'm just so happy that they're doing so well.

I could not imagine it being otherwise. Marike and Alana is the perfect combination for this campaign. The sombre mood, make up, background , clothes and the accessories is well blended here. Nothing outshines one another- all are well balanced here.

Kudos to Vogue China again for featuring such a stellar new casts.

Models from Liu Wen to Kiki Kang; Hanne and Patricia van de Vliet; Karlie Kloss and Mirte Maas; Du Juan, Philip Huang and Shu Pei and others are featured in the February issue. Although the cover itself is a pretty one, I would very much prefer Liu Wen to be on the cover. I don't understand how she could be the most sought after Chinese fashion model at this time and yet she's not granted for a Chinese Vogue cover. I don't mean that Shu Pei does not deserve it- she does but I just feel that it is extremely unfair to Liu Wen. At that peak period of Du Juan's modeling time, she has graced so many of Chinese Vogue covers (and still counting). Mirte, on the other hand, looks amazing here. I like the white Gucci dress they wore and the gold font. So pure- like.

Calvin Klein's Jac?

Gucci has Natasha Poly. Sasha was a Prada muse. Freja for Chanel.

With the second season running as the Calvin Klein model, is she the next Natalia Vodianova? I;m a big fan of Jac although she's just so young. From her debut, she has stormed the modeling world and in just a year, she's the most wanted newcomer on the runway, scored Calvin Klein campaign and has been featured regularly in editorials. The first image for the campaign is stunning! If she keeps her momentum going, she will be the next big thing, maybe even joining the ranks like Natalia. Jac and Calvin Klein. Seems pretty matching.

Yves Saint Laurent

Gucci

Never get sick of Natasha Poly for Gucci though I secretly wish for Freja to be in it as well. Looks very much like their previous Cruise campaign but nevertheless a good one. Love the background and how Natasha works her body.

Louis Vuitton

Not too LV but Lara Stone is better any day, any way than Madonna. Thank You.

Prada

Rasa Zukauskaite work it like a mannequin following exactly as on the runway. Such an amazing model choice and equally great campaign. Simplicity at its' best!

Chanel

I'm totally biased. Anything with Freja is good. But honestly, I think the pairing of Freja and Baptiste is better than last season maybe because this collection is more neutral and they are paired together. Most have noticed that Freja and Baptiste share similar facial features thus making it more convincing. Claudia's solo shot is not bad too. I'm tremendously happy that Karl focuses as much on Freja as he did with Freja although Freja have to share with Baptiste most in most of the images but still...

Dior

Karlie Kloss with her famous killer stare. It looks awkward with the collection. Try to be softer next time.

Hermes

Rapunzel, Karlie let down your Hermes scarves. Totally dreamy and beautiful and soft.

Fendi

Surprisingly Anja Rubik delivers.

Givenchy

Striking! A contrast between soft and fierce. Another outstanding as with Maria Carla Boscono (she just fits in for Givenchy) and Natalia Vodianova.

Dolce & Gabbana

Better than LV. Almost convinced with Madonna's look here.

Burberry

As if having Emma Watson as the campaign girl is not bad enough, Burberry decided to front a brother sister team by including her brother Alex Watson (and a few other male models). I like Emma, don't get me wrong. But she is just too young for such a respected highly luxurious brand. If she was to model for the Blue or Black label will be totally fine but for such a strong collection, it just falls flat and does not deliver. Sorry.

Bottega Veneta

Nice. Such a beautiful potrayal. So natural it's modeling at its' best or they're just plain relaxing.

Giorgio Armani

Sweet Nimue Smit in such a dark strong vision. Love her pose, love Nimue, hate the lighting, hate the setting. Usual Armani stuff.

Versace

Looks like '90s ad. The collection itself is very retro. Like it, it could turn out much worse but I'm glad pulled it through. They could find a better model though.

Mulberry

The focus is on the bag, isn't it? The Alexa bag. It's nice but why can't I stop looking at Sasha and Viktoriya's ridiculous wigs?

Lanvin

I'm usually more than happy to see a model's face on any campaign but Lanvin proves otherwise, if it's a full frontal shot of Jamie Bochert, I think I will not be interested but it's her body language that works it for me. It's working for the collection too. Pretty amazing!

All in all, I'm just relieved that designers/ fashion brands are starting to use more models to front their campaigns rather than opting for celebrities. This is a kick-start to 2010 with a few amazing campaigns (and some rather disappointing ones) but it seems that 2010 is focusing more on simplicity. Pretty bold background with great modeling. If this is the trend, well, I, for one, welcomes it. By the way, hopes it's not too late to wish everybody Happy 2010!

Celine and Prada both opt to preview their campaigns by showing only the collections without focusing on the model. Celine is focusly simplistic , only showing strictly the clothes and bags - cropping out the models head. Meanwhile, Prada left us with stunning mannequin like images fronted by Rasa Zukauskaite.

These latest Jan 2010 editorials (from Vogue Nippon and Germany respectively) make me wonder, are they the next big thing?

No, this is not Lily Donaldson but Bregje Heinen does look like her twin sister here. They're almost identical. I never notice that Bregje looks so much like Lily. Watchout!

Toni looks a lot like Lara Stone here.If there's no indication at all, I would have mistaken her as Lara. But, of course, she has a softer look and that eyes are purely Toni's.

Is this the new trend for Spring Summer 2010 campaign? Lanvin and Gucci both focus on the models' body pose rather than shooting the whole look from the model's head to toe. I think this is such a great idea. Look at the Lanvin ad, the clothes are so emphasized especially the ruffles part. But if you put Jamie Bochert standing still with those outfits, I believe it would not have the same effect. Natasha Poly did an outstanding job as the Gucci women too, so sexy,glamorous and luxurious all together. Her pose is to die for with the beautiful scenery as the background. My only complain is it looks exactly as the cruise campaign with Snejana. I can't believe the SS2010 campaign images have started to surface so soon. It's still 2009 after all. But I'm so eager to see what other campaigns would be - Prada, Chanel, Miu Miu, Versace- and the list goes on.

The name is Abi Fox

It seems like not too long ago, I am obsessed with "A Model's Life with Petra Nemcova". No, I'm not particularly a Petra fan but I am fond of one of its' participant, a British girl called Abigail Fox. She was young, very sweet and very girl next door look. As soon as the show end, most of the girls disappeared including Abigail.

It was a surprise to see her on the presentation for Temperly London Pre-Fall 2010. I'm glad she continued modeling. She is with Models 1 in London after a unsuccesful attempt at Next. I remember seeing her in their New Faces board, looks like she has changed management. Being with Next,she doesn't seem to grow. It's good news that she booked the show after changing agents.

Abi Fox (as she is called now) certainly look more grown up. She's grown taller I believe and is, unfortunately, a thinner self. Her baby face has gone to show a sharper face-particularly noticeable with her cheekbones.

I certainly hope that she'll continue to succeed. I believe she has put so much effort just for the sake to continue modeling. This is just her beginning, I hope I will see her at NY. Fingers crossed!

Is this your LV?

I have been quite bored with the past seasons' LV campaign with Madonna and Scarlett Johansson. It is a pleasant news that Lara Stone is replacing Madonna for the Spring Summer 2010 campaign.
But, by the image of it, I think, this is a good shot from Steven Meisel with Lara, but, for a Louis Vuitton ad campaign? I doubt it serves the brand. LV is such a luxurious brand, that a model lying on the grass with the "it" bag is just so totally wrong.

Like many have debated on tFS, this looks more like a Vogue Italia editorial than a LV campaign.
I have to agree too. If in turn, this is a VI cover and editorial, I would have applaud it but this is not, it is a LV campaign.
However, I would welcome Lara as the new campaign girl- no matter how not suitable this campaign is-she is better than Madonna-fashion wise.

I couldn't believe I have not post anything on this stunning classic beauty from Germany.Just 15 when she walked exclusively for Calvin Klein (for 2 seasons in a row), she was a hit every designer wanted after her exclusive ended in time for S/S 2009 season where she walked more than 50 shows in NY, Milan and Paris.

Toni has booked almost every single blue chip campaign - Fendi, Calvin Klein, Prada, Dior, Jill Stuart,Donna Karan, Burberry, Chloe, Versace (Versense perfume), Emporio Armani, Etro, Hugo Boss and Shiseido Cle de Peau -just to name a few.

She already had a few Vogue covers in her very brief career-Vogue Germany (of course!), Vogue Italia and Vogue Russia and was featured regularly in every top magazines like Vogue, W, V magazine, I-d, Numero and Tush.

I don't fall in love with Toni instantly like many others do. Don't get me wrong, she is very beautiful indeed but I don't feel her presence. A lot of people have commented that she lacks expression in shots. This, unfortunately, I have to agree. I think Toni can model. Sometimes her shots are good, some falls flat or just plain mediocre. But, the girl have plenty of time. She is just so young and to have her portray as a mature 30-something women in an ad campaign is absurd.

Toni is such a classic beauty and with experience I believe she can deliver. She has so many people supporting her. The designers and photographers love her. This girl is getting better little by little, day by day, with all the chances that she's been given. What I love about her is that she started off as this very cute sweet 15 then she grows up in front of us. She is still just 17 - I say let her take her time. By the way, she's best bud with Karlie Kloss and Ali Stephens too -among many other models that she's been friends with. I love her sweetness, her cute smile and most of all, when I look at her pics now- she's so beautiful , she melts my heart!

I think it's a fun idea to toy around the idea using social network Twitter in Vogue Italia. What's even more surprising is that Steven Meisel himself is in the editorial. Photo quality wise is quite bad since this is supposed to be self-taken pictures. Theme wise, creatively fun. Some of my fave:

Rag & Bone Models

Rag & Bone has always been one of my favourite runway shows to watch. Not only it is one of the first shows to kickstart the fashion week, it is only one of the most "in" show for NYFW. Besides being one of the coolesrt show in town, casting wise is very exclusive too. A search into style.com shows that the designers' tend to stick to their favourite models and bring it some fresh new faces that is instant hit. This season, especially is loaded with newcomers- namely Jacquelyn Jablonski, Jac, Karolin Walter, Keke Lindgard, Julija Steponaviciute, Emily DiDonato- just to name a few. But since their debut for SS2007, these few models have been walking regularly for them, the latest being this SS2010.

Who on earth would think that Ali Stephens and Allen Tsai could be such a matching couple in all the hard attitude they're giving to "I Love Shopping" editorial in Numero Tokyo # 107. If I could have it my way, I would name it "I Love Rock & Roll". Ali is certainly the princess of editorial. She just have that kind of versatility to channel into the character needed into the shot. Way to go, Ali!

The Dutch and The American

I have just concluded my own Top 10 newcomers list. But, I can't help myself from thinking that this season, we have seen a lot more models from the Netherlands and America. That leads me to my personal favourite from this two countries- Nimue Smit and Karlie Kloss.

Karlie exploded onto the scene after being Calvin Klein exclusive and since then had graced numerous campaigns, covers and editorials. US Vogue couldn't agree better, they had been featuring Karlie in every single editorial lately. For the record, Karlie had 3 different editorials in the November issue of US Vogue. Nimue, on the other hand, had this cutesy look, very girlish and fairytale-like. But that hadn't stop her from being featured regularly for Italian Vogue. She was double exclusive for Prada and Miu Miu for Spring 2009 and was booked for the same season campaign for Prada.

Both girls are only 17 this year. Karlie started during the Spring Summer 2008 season while Nimue on 2009. Both girls are on the rise now and there's no stopping them. They just keep getting better!

Top Newcomers

Style.com and models.com have yet to come up with the full top 10 newcomers list. So here I am trying my luck to see how many hits that I predicted will come true on either or both sites. These girls are my personal favourite too; those that leave an impression (or two) on me. Here goes starting from:

# 10: Hannah Holman

The hype is on because she was Miu Miu campaign girl last fall and was on the Prada and (opens) Miu Miu resort show. But did not repeat Prada and Miu Miu for S/S 2010, she was at Fendi, Chanel, Valentino and Louis Vuitton this season and walked a total of 18 shows. Not a very impressive season but still her name is somewhat known.

#9: Lindsay Wixson

There's something about this girl. Her face is unique in that she has little chubby cheeks and a very tiny bee-stung lips. Exclusive for Prada and Miu Miu. You can either love her or loathe her. For the moment, Miucca Prada loves her and that only means one thing- an ad campaign for Prada or Miu Miu next?

#8: Shu Pei Qin

Shu Pei has been in this business for quite a while but this is her biggest season yet, walking for Prada, Marni, Fendi, Chanel, Miu Miu, Alexander McQueen, Louis Vuitton and the list goes on. Shu Pei walked an impressive 47 shows- 28 of which she walked at Milan and Paris. Apart from Liu Wen, she is the most sought after Chinese model of the moment. Will this means more editorials and campaigns to come?

#7: R'el Dade

She looks a little like Lyndsey Scott but more grown up and mature, I should say. R'el debuted at the Valentino Haute Couture Fall 09 show. R'el started slow walking for (among others) Marc by Marc Jacobs and Rad Hourani at NY , Etro, Emporio and Giorgio Armani at Milan before hitting it big at Paris with top shows like Hermes, Christian Dior , Jean Paul Gaultier and Valentino.

#6: Bregje Heinen

Look at her impressive Milan and Paris shows and you will immediately fall for this girl. Among of her total 33 shows are Fendi, Gucci, Miu Miu, Prada, Emilio Pucci, Balenciaga, Loewe, Lanvin and Louis Vuitton. Being compared to Lily Donaldson has only skyrocketed her career. Just 16 but she have this calm composure. Definitely a must watch!

#5: Jacquelyn Jablonski

What can I say- she was everywhere. By doing so, Jacquelyn has not only walked 58 shows, she is instantly recognised on the catwalk. Her feline look, green captivating eyes makes me think her of a younger more mellow version of Catherine McNeil. The all American girl certainly get all the attention.

#4: Ginta Lapina

First look at Ginta and I immediately thinks of a charater out of Harry Porter world. She has this magical twinkle in her eyes and she is just so young looking, like a little girl lost in the fashion world yet she is just so captivating. Ginta is from Latvia and has been around since 2005. I wonder why it takes so long for her to be noticed. She still looks so young, I wonder how old could she be now?

#3: Anastasia Kuznetsova

A top 10 would not be complete without a Russian stunner. Stunning indeed is Anastasia, opening for Rodarte, Herve Leger and Max Azria at NY. Anastasia walked all four capitals and was a Prada/ Miu Miu girl. Beautiful girl like a fairy from a fairytale.

#2: Frida Gustavsson

This is a close fight. Frida had a staggering 60 shows this season, the most walked by a newcomer. I have loved her since she opened for Valentino Haute Couture. This girl is MAJOR, she'll be in lots of editorials, covers and campaigns. Maybe the next Toni Garrn.

#1: Mirte Maas

It's either Mirte or no one else. She has been blue-chip all along fashion week. Starting by opening Alexander Wang and Donna Karan at NY, walking Anna Sui, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs and Rodarte among others. Skipped London and refreshed at Milan by walking Versace, Jil Sander, Prada, Roberto Cavalli, Bottega Veneta and Fendi (and more) and storms Paris at Balenciaga, Celine, Chanel, Chloe, Gareth Pugh,Giles,Givenchy,Hermes,Karl Lagerfeld,Louis Vuitton,Lanvin,Miu Miu,Nina Ricci,Rick Owens,Valentino, closing Roland Mouret and opening
Yves Saint Laurent on the way. And, if that's not enough, style.com has named her Next Top Model.

Chanel Trio

Like many others, I don't get Baptiste's appeal but what Karl likes, he keeps. I am just glad that he has found some other muses that he adores at the moment- Freja, Lara Stone and Heidi Mount all included. Though Heidi was not in the final three, she still opens Chanel and was the Chanel girl past seasons.

And, I love how Karl is pairing Baptiste and Freja together. I have to say, Freja does look good paired with Baptiste.

The Supers

Paris was a surprise. Not one, but three supermodels walked the runway for three different designes. Eva Herzigova walked for Hermes, Daria Werbowy walked for Balmain and Natalia Vodionova for Stella McCartney. Of course, all of them had the opening and closing slots. It's nice once in a while to have little surprises and Paris did not dissappoint.

End of Fashion Week

No more models spotting. No more anticipation of designers shows. No more chaos, crazy backstage photos. I still can't believe that Spring Summer 2010 fashion week has ended. It was just recently that all this chaos started at New York, then London, by the time it reach Milan- it was all craziness and then it hit Paris and now it has ended. Overall, I have to say despite all the recession going on, the shows goes on especially at Paris where all the big branded major brands still delivers. Among all the things that I missed most is the finale walkout of all the models showcasing the clothes of each designers. I, personally thinks that that is the highlight of each show. It is where it all comes together whether the designer stick to the same theme and created like 40 clothes under the same influence or when they failed and each clothes does not resemble one another and when it just a random idea.

Surprise, surprise, surprise!

Tanya D , as expected turned up at Christian Dior for her first walk this season. Daria Werbowy walks only for Balmain and Miranda Kerr, unexpectedly shows up walking for Balenciaga, her first for the brand.

On the other hand, some models and catwalks update.

*As promised, Coco Rocha returns to Paris walking for Jean Paul Gaultier. I'm sad she missed Dior but another model, Caroline Trentini made her first appearance at Dior after skipping London and Milan. Jourdan Dunn walks for the first time too for Jean Paul Gaultier although she's visibly pregnant.
*Two other models are heading back home. As mentioned, Jessica Stam is sick and back at NYC and IMG current star, Jac is also nowhere to be seen at Paris, she's headed back home as well.

Some other models remains MIA this season, namely Raquel Zimmermann, Anna Jagodzinska, Sigrid Agren and Lara Stone (who's pressured to be "thinner"-comparing herself with her other models friends-she's only walked for Christopher Kane, Jaeger London, Jonathan Saunders and Prada this season.)

Freja already had an impressive runways this season walking all three capitals-NY, London, Milan-now Paris, she's (also) at Gareth Pugh and Balenciaga. The only bad news this far is Jessica Stam will not be walking at Paris since she's back at NY because she's sick but her friend, model Heidi Mount is at Paris. Welcome back, girls!

In a very long time (or never), exclusive runway spots at Gucci and Prada are never meant for Asian models. But, it is to change this season by having Liu Wen in both of the coveted spot. Liu Wen had been actively walking down the runway for all fashion capital cities since her debut. But, this is her first time walking for Gucci and Prada and also, may I say, the first time (or in a very long time) both brands ever cast an Asian girl to walk their runway. Last season, Liu Wen walked the most shows along side Yulia Kharlapanova. Liu Wen was everywhere this season albeit a more toned down schedule if compared to last season. One more capital left, any more surprises from Liu Wen? This we'll just have to wait and see.

As you may or may not know, versace.com is in its' 'renovation' and will be back in a few hours time. Well, I am definitely eager to view into its' website once it's up considering that it's the first place where the Spring Summer 2010 fashion show video will be up. A glimpse at its' preview left me wanting for more.

Moreover, this season Versace hottens its' collection with lots of colors and prints. The collection itself is very vibrant, very fresh, very young , very sexy and true to its' name very Versace. Many has claimed that this collection is very Gianni Versace- era, maybe Donatella is paying a tribute to her dear brother but nonetheless, like every Versace collection, this does not disappoint and as this collection is for Spring Summer, it fits in very well. I loved all the pastel colors used. The prints are a little distracting, not the best to be used but all are forgiven when those gowns are to die-for.The outfits aside, the shoes are a little tacky and the bags are just so-so. Not a fan of their accesories.

And, for once, I think that the casting are a little odd. The Versace veterans like Raquel, Carmen , Daria and Isabeli did not walk. They are nowhere to be seen in Milan. Some familiar names like Natasha Poly, Sasha, Freja, Karlie, Lily Donaldson, Snejana and Vlada reprise their role as regular Versace catwalkers while Abbey Lee opens and closed the show.

New girls like Mirte Maas (which fit in), Ginta Lapina and Katlin Aas debuted at their first Versace show but, as weird as this might sound, these girls looks like other models who have walked Versace . Mirte looks like Agnete Heghlund, Ginta is like Viktoriya Sasonkina and for some reason, I think that Katlin Aas looks like Coco Rocha here, maybe because of their hair color. I'm excited to see Skye, Jac, Imogen and Nimue there.

Iris and Ranya was there too, they are just everywhere nowadays but Versace? Iris -OK but Ranya? I just don't know what to say. Ranya belongs more to the cool kind of vibe, I don't see any sexiness in her walk.Another surprise is when Rianne Ten Haken walked.

Now, are that are left is the video. I'm wondering how many more hours do they need for the website to function...

Even with a showcard, Agyness is a no show at NY and although there's rumor that she purposely dyed her hair black to walk for Marc Jacobs, it turns out to be just a rumor after all.
And, as mentioned earlier, Jessica Stam only walks 2 shows for NY this season -at Anna Sui and Marc Jacobs. Plus, she is the latest addition to the models dyeing their hair bleach blonde. She's looking lovely though. Anja Rubik finally appear at Michael Kors and although in my last post, I have posted that Vlada shed her red hair to blonde again, another model Kasia Struss also went with a lighter shade. This season, it's all about the models' hair and going MIA.

Where have all the girls gone to?

It's already midway through NYFW but most of the top models are either MIA or have only walked a few shows. Gone are the days when all the big names will walk Rag & Bone (this season, for some reason, most of the runway girls are newcomers). Rumor has it that Sigrid will skip NY but Toni is nowhere to be seen as well. Lara, Anja and Tanya D have no shows to date. Not to mention that Raquel have no showcard for NY. Even with a showcard, it is confirmed that Jourdan Dunn will not be walking due to her pregnancy. Although Agyness have a NY showcard, my bet is that she's going to walk only for Anna Sui, as usual. Jessica Stam have also said that she will only walk in 2 shows-confirming only for Anna Sui too. Caroline Trentini, Sasha Pivovarova and Coco Rocha have only walked 1 show so far- Carol for Derek Lam, Sasha for Rag & Bone and Coco for Diane von Furstenberg. Whatever happened, there's only hope for the models to turn up at Michael Kors who always have outstanding cast of models.

Next posted that Daul Kim returns to her black roots and cut it real short.
While we are already expecting Jourdan to skip this coming season fashion week, another surprise is that rumor has it that Sigrid Argen is going to skip fashion week too. It is not sure yet whether she will be skipping only NY or all four capitals. Watch this space.

Kiki Kang @ New York Model

Kiki Kang is famous for being the Asian lookalike of Chanel Iman. You can immediately see the resemblance especially her lips. This is Kiki's second season at NYC. To date, her biggest runway walk was for Jean Paul Gaultier and Hermes. I'm hoping to see more of Kiki on the runway come SS2010 fashion week. This girl got potential and now all she lacks of is getting exposure. Definitely those designers have to give her a chance to prove herself.

New models will be frolicking to NYC for NYFW. 3 special girls I find quite interesting to share. These girls caught my attention with their showcard.

Paulina Nierodzik, 18, Polish

Paulina has been in this business for a while. If you look for her name at The Fashion Spot, the members had created a forum for her since 2006. She was 15 then and was a little chubby faced and too young. What was amazing about Paulina was 3 years later, she is now with Next and had an amazing showcard. She has walked a couple of shows consistently since she debuted but nothing memorable. So far, she has yet to walk any "top shows". I'm hoping that she'll hit it big this time. All the hardwork should have been paid off by now.

Rachel Rutt, 17, Australian/Singaporean

This is the girl that created a buzz during last resort season. She was in NYC and was immediately liken as girl-most-wanted. Whether Rachel can live up to the expectations, that's for us to see. Sure this girl has something others don't, look at her colorful background- she's half English, half Singaporean, born in Hong Kong and grew up in Japan! It's time for an Eurasian girl to storm the catwalk!

Malene Knudsen, ?

Malene is the newest of the new bunch. Nothing about her yet in the Next website yet she had a showcard. My guess is they found this gem at the very last minute and immediately send her to work. Her showcard might be from her test shots but this image is enough for me to know more about her. From her surname, she might from Sweden or other European countries. Come fashion week, I'm sure more info about her will appear.

Coco @ Vogue Mexico

It's been quite a while since Coco appear in any magazine cover. This is quite a surprise and I believe that this is her debut for a magazine cover since she colored her hair a darker tone. I do love her in her red haired days but I have to say that this color does suit her too. Coco has such a pale skin that I believe any darker tone than that of her skin tone can suit her well. I can't imagine her going blonde though. Speaking of Coco, her cover and editorial for Vogue Mexico is so good that good is not enough as a word. I miss Coco when she's not working.

Vogue Nippon Oct 2009: Raquel Zimmermann

When I look at the cover, omg, another dreadful one with the letter covering the model's face. Nevertheless, Raquel poses like no other- a little Diva-ish for me. I like the LV outfit without the bunny ears. The editorial that follow, No Place To Think About Tomorrow is just drop dead amazing, Raquel in her best element. By the way, Raquel manage to retain her number one spot at Models.com after all the debate whether Natasha Poly or Lara Stone will surpass her. With this kind of amount of campaigns, editorials and covers, clearly Raquel is still on the top of her game and there's surely no signs of her slowing down yet.

Sasha and Freja rocking it from Mario Testino's upward angle shooting. I like the collaboration of both models. They projecteed their individuality into it but somehow managed to balance each other. Sasha is more into the lense while Freja is looking at somewhere else and it works. I like how cool this editorial turns out to be. For more, click here.

Which amazes me so much when I look at it, all the girls are so happy and I can see that its' environment is very easy. More magazines should feature shots like this. It's so natural and believable. My only complain is Jourdan, she should not have look down or maybe the photographer shot when's she's just not ready. Apart from that, I'm just happy these cheerful girls. Makes me want to buy this issue.

Two different cover. Same model. Lara Stone. This girl is so versatile. The Vogue Paris cover proved that she can be a soft, delicate old Hollywood icon without having to show sexy as she always does. The Numero cover is classic Lara. Fierce and daring and 100% Lara. From sexy and modern to old movie siren. I think there's already someone out there to fill in Kate Moss' shoes. None other than Lara Stone, of course.

Gucci-nism

The horrendous Gucci campaign which I loved more and more day by day seeing only Freja and Anja rocking it in every shot they were in. I don't get Raquel's poses which I thought were funnier than fierce but Raquel being her always pulled out the most outstanding poses. I have to say that she is the only one who's not afraid of doing something different though most of us (me included) do not know how to appreciate it. Natasha did fierce in all of her shots which did not fail her but seeing it in all 8 shots makes it a little boring. Abbey, Myf, Jacquetta, Dree and Jamie are more like sidekicks here. Poor Myf, she have to stand in the background doing the same poses. If I have not noticed, I would have thought she was just cut and paste into the background. Jamie does not fit into this campaign at all- she is lost in almost all of her pics. Jacquetta has the worst outfit and hairstyle. She looks like she belongs to the guys more than the girls. Abbey and Dree- where do I start? First of all, they're more like cameos in this ad, appearing in a shot and then disappeared and appear in another shot. Their presence is forgettable. To sum it all, a rather disappointing campaign given that the cast most of the top models. Gucci could have done much better and please, why don't they change the models' outfits. It's the same as in Pre-Fall where the same outfits were used in all of their ads. Please change this formula. Is it really working, I wonder.

Jones New York FW 09/10

This ad could have simply been mistaken for another Vogue US editorial. I like how they match Anja, Caroline, Liya and Isabeli into one campaign. This is very simple jump and pose but somehow I still find it appealing maybe because there's nothing to hate about this campaign. The models are good, the poses are not over the top and most of all- they showcases their clothes!
